Victoria College Achieves Gold RE Quality Mark

The RE Quality Mark is awarded by the Religious Education Council to celebrate excellence in RE. We are delighted to share that Victoria College achieved Gold.

During the process a detailed portfolio was submitted outlining all the work done in RE relating to learning, teaching, the curriculum and leadership. In addition an assessor met with staff, a student panel, and the Head Teacher to discuss what RE is like in the school.

As Dr Jennifer Uzzell wrote in her summary: ‘Pupils are engaged with the subject…and examples of students' work show they are able to express nuanced and insightful views on a range of subjects.’ She highlighted the words of two students in particular, one who expressed the view that RE ‘helps you to find yourself and discover who you are and what you believe,’ and another who said it is important because you ‘find out about others’ views and cultures and how to respect them.’

Over the last few years the RE Department has worked hard to implement the new Jersey Agreed Syllabus for RE, introduced Religious Studies as a full GCSE option subject, and continued to offer Philosophy as a successful A Level: it is a great pleasure to have had all the efforts of staff and students alike recognised with this Gold Award.
